MacBook keyboard "g" not functioning to write text

my "g" on the keyboard only functions when it wants. The only way I can use it to write a text now is a "copy and paste" method.

Three character typing! I am using a usb keyboard to type on my late 2011, 13inch Mac Pro at the moment as the inbuilt keyboard appears to be recognising only the middle section of keys on the keyboard! For example, pressing say 'q' does nothing. Pressing 'z' does nothing, but pressing 'a' will display 'aqz'. Can anyone please help with a solution.
