ApplePay(NFC) stops working on iPhone 8

Hello, I rely on ApplepPay a lot (grocery store, Starbucks, etc). I use an iPhone 8 that's in great condition – never been dropped. In the past months, my ApplePay won't work when trying to activate over a PoS system. I have tried:

  • resetting network settings
  • removing/re-adding my card to ApplePay
  • disabling Wallet Sync across iCloud

Finally, I decided a fresh iOS 12 reinstall would be worth it. ApplePay worked off and on at first, but unfortunately has stopped once again. Does anyone have other recommendations? Is there a way to diagnose a faulty NFC chip without going into an Apple store and having them use their internal tool? All of the "diagnostic apps" in the App Store are scammy and likely can't access this antenna.

Thank you so much,

Chad

You've really answered your own question.

If the app store does not have an app capable of what you need, why would you believe there is one somewhere else?

Take the phone to an Apple authorized service provider.

Thanks for your reply. However, I was able to diagnose a faulty cellular radio by using Field Test mode. It seems reasonable that perhaps another method of viewing NFC status may be accessible to a user.

Also, since my ApplePay seems to come in and out, perhaps a software-related fix is available.
