Cannot transfer music folder to Itunes Library

I asked this question previously. Some answers said to click on option while opening Itunes to move a folder to a library, but after saving all of the songs from my Ipod to a music folder it isn't recognized in Itunes. So my question is how do I convert the music folder into an acceptable Itunes music folder in order to move the songs into the music library in Itunes? Very frustrating.

You need to copy all of the files that are in the F00-Fnn folders into your computer, unhide them, the move them into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder in your media folder (normally Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Automatically Add to iTunes).

You put files that you want to add into:

../iTunes/iTunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes

iTunes will either add them to the library and move them to somewhere like:

../iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/<Album Artist>/<Album>/## <Name>.<Ext>

Or they get moved to

../iTunes/iTunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes/Not Added/<Date & Time>/<Whatever they were originally called>

I posted this already. Recover media from an iPod - Apple Community. My personal experience has been that iTunes ignores the files in hidden folders, although that could potentially differ between Mac and Windows. Despite what that article says I would copy the files to your computer and unhide them rather than attempting to get iTunes to import them directly from the device.

As for extracting playlists from the device that normally requires third party software. I've written a script for Windows but I don't think there is a parallel for Mac. You can see what is on offer at Doug's AppleScripts iTunes.

Apple support aren't geared up for giving advice on media recovery from their devices. Me I'd just copy the F## folders from the device, unhide them, and import that media to the library. Note if you're getting that 1,477 count when you try to drag the whole device folder to iTunes then you'll likely be counting non-media files as well as what is in the device's music folder. That is the only one that counts. Everything else is going to be support files on the device.

iTunes supports the transfer of purchased content from the device to the library, but not other content you might have ripped from CD or obtained from elsewhere. The method I give of extracting the contents of the F## folders should include all items that are on the device. That assumes they remain present in the file system and haven't been erased by other actions that have been taken.

Hi,

I was on the phone with Apple for around an hour and a half tonight. I talked to people, the last one named Chad. He was very helpful in helping me move my files from my Ipod to my hard drive on my IMac. I had some duplicate files, so I will have to review and delete them. I think Chad sent me some articles on moving files. Here is a link he sent me. You may have sent it to me previously. Back up and restore your iTunes Library

Here is some more information Chad sent me. CMD+3/4/5 allows you to take screen shots (Whole screen, part of screen, Graphic interface that lets you decide)

CMD+songs allows you to select a bunch of individual songs

Shift+songs allows you to select a range of songs.

File > Add to library is where you add music.

The F## Folders I will still keep in my records, and plan to see how/if they may apply to my Ipod in the future.

Sorry, but I'm totally lost by your link. I have an Imac. I have around 1400 songs on my Ipod Nano Gen7. I want to transfer them to the library in Itunes. Eventually I plan to put them on another blank Ipod from the Itunes Library. I did copy all of the songs to a folder, but Itunes doesn't recognize them. Now some of my older files on my Ipod Nano may be hidden, but they don't show that way. Please let me know how/if I can transfer my Ipod songs to my Itunes Library. As I mentioned the screens you show in your displays I am unable to duplicate.

Thanks for your quick reply. I will delete Ifunbox. I did try looking at the finder information you provided , but got nowhere. Can you please tailor your response to instruct me how to copy songs from my Ipod nano to the Library folder in Itunes.? I would really appreciate it. Your previous link did provide much information which I found confusing, especially the Windows screen shots. Obviously I don't need those.
