butterfly keyboard issues

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro and have already needed the butterfly keyboard replacing without charge due to it being within the warranty period. It's not been six months and I can feel it will be need to be replaced again soon.

With its known issues, and the continued problems I am obviously going to have, will Apple honour free repairs even after the warranty period?

The Apple free Keyboard replacement program is good for up to four years after the original date of sale.

Unfortunately, the "butterfly" keyboard is a major failure. Let's be honest: it stinks (to be polite). First of all it is NOISY. Then it is uncomfortable. And I find I'm making many more typing mistakes than with the previous "chiclet" keyboard.

Sometimes I use my wife's Macbook and use her chiclet keyboard: silent, comfortable! A pleasure to type!

Then I have had two keys going crazy. First the one with number 4. It would stick and not type anything. I noticed it because my password had a "4" in it, and I would get login failures all the time ... That drove me crazy but somehow fixed itself. I imagine some dust found its way underneath the keycap ...

Now suddenly key "E" started misbehaving. The most frequently used letter in English and French (the languages I do the majority of my typing). Last news: the key just popped out ...

I am going to see the local apple store this afternoon. God knows how long they will keep my macbook for. This is a professional device. I use it every day ...

As soon as Apple comes with macBooks with a decent keyboard, I am thrashing the one I have now.

Personally I suggest getting the promised repair (again for you, it sounds like), and then finding a way to sell this machine and simply get a new model.

I was in the same boat, and since I rely on my computer for work, it was too stressful wondering how long my keyboard would hold out and how long a repair might take, etc. Like you, I had issues within the first month and wish I had insisted on a refund immediately. Live and learn. Apple should really be replacing many of these computers altogether-not just the keyboard-but that will never happen. So get out while you can, recoup most of your losses, and get a new machine.

Just my 2 cents.
