iPhone unresponsive after disconnected from car play

Every time I disconnect my phone from carplay it becomes unresponsive. I can't open apps or shut it down, only fix I have found is to take repeated screenshots until the phone crashes and the os reboots. Is there a better method to restart the phone ?

iPhone XS, iOS 12

While it is not normal for the phone to freeze when being removed from CarPlay, the easiest way to get the phone working again at that point is a force restart. See this support document with the section about if your device is frozen. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support

  • iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
