Photo retouch problem

When I try to retouch an area of a photo, instead of blending the area to the surrounding background, a different image appears in the retouched area. Has anyone else had this happen?

As you probably know, the Retouch brush has two modes. (Retouch a photo to fix marks and blemishes in Photos on Mac - Apple Support)

  • Remove blemishes: In this mode the brush will fill the brushed area so it fills in with the background
  • Copy: In the second mode it will clone the area you option click and copy its texture to the brushed area.

It looks like you used the retouch tool in the "Copy" mode. Did you perhaps option-click some area before you started to retouch? Option-clicking will lift the texture from the clicked area and apply it to the brushed area.
