Airplane Mode Turns Off on Its Own

Over the last year I have noticed that my phone would turn the airplane mode off all by itself. Originally it looked like one a month, then once a week, now it seems almost daily.

I carry it with me during the trips abroad and it clearly does it on its own.

I noticed the following patterns:

  • if the phone has died and then recharged. When it turns on its airplane mode is off
  • if phone is charged for a while
  • if you keep it in airplane mode for a month
  • if you keep it in airplane mode for a week

i ran a test where I just left it on a drawer for a few weeks and would only plug it at night. Surprise - airplane mode would be turned off after a few days.

There is very low likelihood hat I would disable airplane mode on my own. Especially when I am testing to check if the airplane mode is turned of automatically.

I suspect that carriers are remotely disabling the airplane mode to track where you are. Or there some sort of feature that enables WiFi operators to do it. Or maybe it is findmyphone functionality but there is irrefutable fact that airplane mode is not controlled by us and claims that it is all user operation is untrue.

Can someone please help? Roaming fees are insane because of this.
