Bootcamp Error: "Your disk could not be partitioned". Windows 10 installation - REPOST

Hello,

My issue https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250468721 remains "Unsolved".

I have clicked the "Solved" button by mistake. So I am reposting the issue here.

Apologies for the late reply. Before partitioning, I wanted to re-activate Time Machine backups, and it took the whole night to complete a new backup from zero.

I have tried to partition at the device level (not at the container level). See picture below:

My internal SSD hard drive has 500,3 GB capacity. Currently 103.4 GB of free space. However, I am informed that the maximum amount for the new partition is 0.062 GB.

As a test, I go ahead and I create the partition. Just to see if it is possible to complete the process successfully. It is.

After successfully executing the partition, Disk Utility provides the following details of the operation. As you can see, the details include multiple "overallocation" warnings". See log attached.

After the new partition "U" has been created. Disk Utility does not allow me to resize/enlarge it.

Hi Loner T,

I was wondering if you have any feedback on my latest message.

To be sincere, I never thought that this "fix" will take so much time and effort. Right now, I am tired and frustrated for all the time spent on this. As I work from home and this is my work computer, I really can't afford to remain in this "non-fully productive" state any longer. Right now, I am thinking on doing a full reinstall of Mac OS Mojave 10.14.5 from zero in my internal SDD. No timemachine recovery, just to copy-paste all my files back into the internal drive and reinstall all apps. Even if it takes the whole weekend.

I am sure that there is a reason to do every step in the way that we have done it so far. However, I still don't understand why erasing my internal SDD, setting up the right file format, and then recovering from TM backup could not work. I think it would avoid all the Terminal work (which I don't really know to use) and all the (at least for me) complex manual re-creation of partitions. I know that I have asked about this in the past, but I don't think that I haven't got a response from you about it (or maybe I did, but I didn't get it). I would really appreciate if you could tell me why this path is not advisable. I am sure that there is a reason, it would be great to know it.

In any case, I want you to know that I am really grateful for your help and for all the time you are devoting to help me fix my computer.

To learn a bit more of CLI, I was planning to read two books published by "No Starch Press":

"How Linux Works: What every Superuser should know" by Brian Ward: only chapters 1 ("The Big Picture") & 2 ("Basic Commands and Directory Hierarchy").
"The Linux Command Line: A complete introduction" by William Shotts.

If you know about better places to start, I am all ears.

That is correct. You do not want to erase the whole disk, otherwise you will lose Bootcamp.

A good place is to start would be to learn bash. https://developer.apple.com/macos/ is also a good place to start.
