iPad Pro first gen will not connect to macbook pro 13” using apple usb c dongle. will not charge

First gen iPad Pro 12”. When connecting to USB port on Apple USB C dongle connected to 13” MacBook Pro 2016 it doesn’t appear to get the required power - you get a charging chime, you see the message not charging briefly by the battery indicator then the connection drops all together, few seconds later it repeats.

IPad mini and iPhones all connect fine through same cables and setup

Thinking it was the dongle and compatibility I went and got a lightning to usb c cable to connect the I-ad direct to usb c port. With this connection it charges the iPad OK and the iPad shows under usb on system info but will not connect to iTunes.

Is is anyone aware of this issue with the first gen iPad Pro?

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14

Sorry that wasn't the answer. I had it in to the Apple store and they had their own 12.9" connected to my laptop without issue and Apple report themselves there is no incompatabilites. After trying everything under the sun we settled on a fault with the charging port on the iPad.

But just today I managed an unexpected fix. I plugged in my Apple Pencil to the iPad to charge - something I hadn't used in a long time and it appeared to clean or straighten out the pins on the post - because its working fine now. So I've ditched the charging cable that I was using for a new one just incase it was knocking them off. Fingers crossed it's fixed.
