Contacts no longer shows the alphabetic breakdown

This happened after deleting one contact when using High Sierra. All groups except 1 no longer show the ABC breakdown, nor is it shown if "All" are listed.

I have migrated to a new Mac using Mojave 10.14.5 and the problem is still there.

I use iCloud and its all OK on ipad & iPhone.

I have tried looking at Contacts settings ** cannot find a solution there.

A little bit annoying any thoughts anybody please?

It looks to me that small groups (20 or less cards) do not show the divisions.

I don't think there is any kind of setting. Send Feedback to Apple

Thanks. Yes I believe that you are right, that never occurred to me when the indexation disappeared. The only group that show the ABC has >20. (Seems odd that this is not the case on pad & phone!). Anyway I sent a feedback (above), I doubt it will change anything!!
