Socks Proxy & Yahoo hijacking July 2019--Virus log details
After giving myself a🏆 for successfully removing the Bing hijacker malware from my Macbook earlier this year, I ended up trashing it and abandoning any delusion that I possessed latent IT talent. My computer became reinfected with malware and viruses that none of my rookie moves could flush out and flush down. Yahoo ruled supreme, Socks insisted on being the preferred proxy, and the internet acted like it was in North Korea 1998.
Online forums and youtube tutorials were unhelpful across the board. Most were clickbait for the purchase of antivirus software. So annoying. Bought Intego's anti-virus package. Intego, however, was slow to defeat the search engine issue. Over-my-head and frustrated, I then bought NordVpn (hoping it would work with Intego to fix the socks proxy issue). Finally, my system is performing like a rock star again. Expensive fix but worth the investment as Intego continues to find viruses and malware on a daily basis. For IT gurus and wannabes out there, here's a snapshot of my quarantine log from July 2019:
