High Pitched frequency when using Airpods 1st gen

I have been using my AirPods for quite some time. For some reason when I initiate calls using them there tends to be a very high pitched sound that comes from them. It is so bad I immediately have to remove the AirPods from my ears. This is BAD! Even when I take them out of my ears the call will continue, but it distorts the call. And the sound will come from the phone there after forcing me to terminate the call. It is not a connectivity issue, there is something wrong with these... I have read other reports of this and the apple response is to reset them... No that does not work. My ears ache after this happens and it is ONLY when I dial while using the AirPods. If my set is faulty, okay apple I feel should replace them... Please do not respond Apple telling me to reset...

Hello,

Yes, you should start with a full reset: Reset your AirPods

If no help, have them serviced: AirPods Service and Repair

Good luck.
