time machine and multiple macs.

Can I use the same backup device with time machine on my imac and macbook pro?

If you mean can you backup both the iMac and the MacBook Pro to the same external drive with Time Machine, yes.

Just make sure you have enough space for 2x-3x the data on both Macs.


You can share out the external on the iMac as a Time Machine destination and backup the MacBook Pro over WiFi.

I use different drives for my Mini and my MBP's, but the different backups can coexist on the same drive.
