Recent MacBook Pro models do not have an input available on the headphone jack, only an output. (on older models where its was available, it was on connections at the distal end of a special plug -- the standard three conductors ran the headphones).
You would need a USB microphone input to connect it into a recent MacBook Pro.

A phono signal is the raw input from the needle.
Phono output is so low, it requires a pre-amplifier to boost it up to regular amplifier levels, referred to as "line" levels (such as those provided by a CD player or tape player). On equipment with a special "phono" input, a built-in pre-amplifier is provided from the "phono" Input.
Thank you for your input. I did insert a PreAmp into the line before connecting to the computer. The question is how and where do I connect? I used the headphone input as suggested in Apple notes but it did not accept the input. I have not seen any series of adapters that will connect to the MacBook Pro. My computer is a 13 inch MacBook Pro purchased in January 2018 and has two C and one headphone input.
Thank you for any further advice you can give.

Thank you. I will now order an adapter.
