Gmail on Safari lately keeps on reloading "Ⓧ This webpage was reloaded because it was using significant memory."

Hello,

Over the past few weeks Safari has been very frustrating, whenever going back to the Gmail tab, the page is reloaded and the message appears on the top of the web browser. The page reload takes quite some time and it's very annoying and disrupting for the workflow.

Any idea what's causing this and how to prevent it from happening?

Running Mac OS 10.14.5 and Safari 12.1.1

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14
