Pairing Series 3 Apple Watch

Apple Series 3 watch stopped connecting to iPhone after 5 months of working properly. I have tried restarting both phone and watch, have restored factory settings, ensured updated iOS on both, confirmed WiFi, Bluetooth on, have unpaired the two, and now when I am starting fresh they still will not recognize each other. I hold them next to each other, no recognition. I try to manually pair, no devices show up on iPhone in watch app, and view finder does nothing. They seem to have no recognition of each other despite all efforts. Any other ideas?
