Can I delete App-specific folders from iCloud?

I would like to delete the app-specific folders for Numbers, Pages, Preview, and TextEdit at the root of my iCloud storage. These folders seem to be standard with iCloud. Perhaps the apps create these folders if they do not find them the first time they run. Many of the files in these folders are aliases of files that I stored elsewhere in documents. I find these folders confusing and clutter, so I'd like to delete these 4 folders after moving out all of the non-alias files to the folder inside Documents that is most appropriate.

Q1. Can I delete these folders? (I haven't tried yet.)

Q2. Will the applications have problems if they do not find their default folders?

Many thanks,

Eric
