I have recently used the trade in tool to purchase an iPhone XR. It worked very well.
I am considering using it to trade in my iPad air for an newer version but the trade in tool does not recognise the serial number of my iPad. However Apple do recognise it when I check its warranty (or lack of it as it is now). Anyone had the same and got round it?

Several reported the same issue a few days ago. I'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly. You can use the Contact Support button at the top of this page or call Apple at: 1-800-MY-APPLE or even visit your local Apple Store.

Go to Settings > General > About then press and hold down on the serial number and press Copy. then go to https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in on your iPad and when it asks for your serial number, press and hold and tap Paste
Yes I have the same. iPad Pro a few years old, and trade in page says invalid serial number. Impressed on the number in About copy and paste, so it’s not a typo issue.
