Macbook pro 15inch 2017 freezes for 30-60s

Macbook freezes when opening an app (Photos, Preview, Finder, or any other actually). The mouse pointer is still responsive, but nothing else. This lasts for 30 to 60 seconds, then the system works again.

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

You have fallen for this bane of many mac users called "cleanmymac".

This is to be considered malware.

Most likely this **** has deleted or otherwise messed with files on your mac and that is what caused the problems.

Make sure you have a full backup.

Uninstall cleanmymac as per the developers' instructions.

Then try running the 10.14.5 Combo Update in the hopes that it fixes stuff that cmm has wrongly deleted or corrupted.

Ultimately the fullproof solution for any mac touched by this **** is a clean install.

You are far from alone on this.

For the record, the mac does not need any third party program that claims to "clean", "optimize" or "speed up".

They are scams. Among them, cmm is one of the most notorious for causing all sorts of problems.

There is even a catchphrase around here (which I think was coined by one of the greatest contributors in this forum):

"Cleanmymac claims another victim".
