Update Apple ID settings. Some account services will not be available until you sign in again.

Hi All!

On my iMac iCloud settings I get a yellow warning triangle and the message "Update Apple ID Settings: Some account services will not be available until you sign in again". So I sign in again (password is definitely right) but the error message stays however many times the password is entered.

My Safari is 12.1.1 and OS High Sierra 10.13.6 - all recently updated with no new software updates currently available. I run F-secure antivirus and VPN but temporarily disabling these makes no difference.

Last time I got this (about 4 months ago) I changed my password which is a pain and it seemed to go away. But now it's back and I don't want to change my password again.

This bug reappears from time to time but I can't work out what's causing it. Also it doesn't seem to actually affect any access to any services (e.g. email & iCloud settings & files via browser are fine). I really don't like the idea of running an OS with some weird warning sign that doesn't respond to proper actions.

Any ideas?

Are you actually signed out of iCloud when you sign back in? Some people have fixed this by signing out of iCloud, restarting the computer, and then signing back into iCloud.

I can't answer your question. Your mate might want to consider changing their password and making sure it is a strong one. They can also add 2 Factor Authentication to their account for more security. If the attempts continue, they might want to consider a name change.

Thanks Eric - I will try approach this if there's no other option. (On my set up it's rather a long winded process to log on and off. Also it'd be good to understand the reason for the bug & address it rather than just relying on a reboot to sort out.)

How isn't this a massive security breach? My mate's been repeatedly hacked by a very persistent and litigious Mr FF and this post got me suspicious. How might this be the way they got in?
