Calendars won’t update

My iPhone calendars will not update. When I open the calendar app it shows a red exclamation mark in a circle to the left of the word "Calendars" at the bottom. When I tap calendars at the bottom to view my list of calendars "Unable to update calendars" is shown. First time I’ve had the issue. All settings for calendar set to show all events and push new data.
