2019 15" Macbook Pro Battery Issue

So around 7 pm, I put my computer to sleep mode, and then I open it up around 6 am and I notice that the battery has dropped from 100% down to anywhere from 70% to 20% of battery life left. I think this is unusual and the battery should not drain this much overnight in sleep mode. The only apps I left open were Messages, Spotify and Chrome (with only a few tabs open).

Could there be a problem with my battery?

Check in Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor.

There's a tab for "Energy" that will indicate the percentage (relative to max) of energy used by currently running apps, and the percentage (relative to all energy used) used by apps in the past 12 hours. If there's something wrong with the battery (i.e. rapid self-discharge), that's not going to tell you anything because it's not the computer draining any energy.

So it shows that Google Chrome is using the most energy, but that was during the day when it was charging and the computer was at 100% the whole time. When I left from work, I quit Chrome completely but as you can see in the graph in the bottom right, the battery is consistently going down throughout the last 12 hours (nighttime for me). So I don't think this may be any certain app causing this issue.

I have a support ticket open currently. Very frustrated since I spent time troubleshooting on the phone with a senior tech and created logs and much evidence that there is a problem. I do not have time to troubleshoot a lemon. I just had the opportunity to side by side test my 2 week old laptop alongside one from 2016.... we were using chrome and doing the same activity together and when mine was at 15% his was at 70%! I do not want to drive 1/2 hour to the Genius Bar, wait around or leave it and have make a return trip. Just send me a new one and I’ll ship this one back! Don’t make me suffer as a customer for being unfortunate enough to have received a very sub-par product. I thought I was paying for the best experience when I purchased Apple!

I actually found that the model I had just purchased new in the box was in fact a 2018... the about this mac showed.... MacBook Pro 15,1

I searched and found that that is a 2018 model... I mentioned that the 2018 had had a problem with batteries to the support technician previously and we had searched by the serial number to see if it was part of the recall.

After all the troubleshooting and discussions we had, the support representative suggested the best course for me to be satisfied was to return the one I had for a different model. I ended up getting the latest i9 version and the battery is working great on the new model.

I am sorry if this does not help. While I am not satisfied with the laptop I have.... I paid $500 more than I had planned and went through a few days of troubleshooting and frustration. So, overall, not real happy with the entire experience. Hopefully this laptop proves to be worth it as time goes passes.
