mail password issues

my Mac's mail is not working for aol. The password is correct according to my phone and my aol account on aol's website. I cannot get any new mail from that mailbox on the Mac. There is a lightning symbol that appears next to the aol mailbox. When I click on that, it asks for my password. then it says it doesn't recognize my "name or password." AOL accepts it. What is the problem?

AOL will not load into MACmail on my desktop My aol account was not loading into my Macmail on my desktop. It is still on my iphone. I verified the accuracy of the account info & pw. AOL Mail on my iMac Unable to add my AOL email account to my iMac on Mail. This is since March 2021. This must be an Apple Mail software problem, as I have no problem signing on, with the same email and password on line to AOL Mail and viewing my emails. The error message is "unable to verify username or password" and I have proved both of these are correct. My iMac is late 2009 with High Sierra 10.13.6 - Has anyone any ideas please?
