"product configuration is missing"

I have downloaded a non-Apple Store plug-in that required security clearance. (I trust the source) When I try to install the plug-in through the original program (that I was able to install without security clearance), I get "product configuration is missing". I'm not sure if this message is from Apple or from the program I want to use it with.
