ipod 7th stops playing music, starts talking

my ipod 7th gen. suddenly stopped playing music in mid-song and a female voice started to recite the titles of all the songs on my ipod. pushed every button. no change. tried shutting it off but the voice kept going even though the screen was dark. kept pushing buttons and finally the voice stopped and it played music as normal again. anyone ever hear of this problem or any solution? thanks in advance.
