All of my albums in PHOTO have disappeared but one

I recently transferred all my iPhoto albums to PHOTO in my newly downloaded Mojave. I created about 40 albums in PHOTO. I was able of select, open, edit, print from any of the albums in PHOTO.

Today I added one more iPhoto album to PHOTO. I can view and open the images in this last album, but all my other albums are gone.

When I click on "My Albums" only the most recent album is visible.

I need help,

Walter

Photos is storing the photos you import in libraries, just like iPhoto did. YOu can have several differet libraries. And inside each library you can use albums to group related photos, and folders to group related albums.

To create a folder in PHOTOS I used import and selected an iPhoto folder, I opened the folder and highlighted the photos in that folder, and dragged them into the empty album I had waiting in PHOTOS. Then I named the album in PHOTOS.

This will work, as long as you select folders with photo to import , when you use the import command. But when you accidentally select an iPhoto Library and open it in Photos, you will create a new Photos Library instead of importing into your existing Photos Library.

You may want to try the following:

  • Launch photos while holding down the options key ⌥. Keep holding down the options key ⌥ until the library chooser dialog appears.
  • Does this dialog show more than one Photos Library? Then select the largest library to find back to your main libary.

Before I installed Mojave I was using Mavericks. With Mavericks I used iPhoto Buddy and had many individual libraries. I saved each library in a folder named iPhotos in use.

To create a folder in PHOTOS I used import and selected an iPhoto folder, I opened the folder and highlighted the photos in that folder, and dragged them into the empty album I had waiting in PHOTOS. Then I named the album in PHOTOS.

I had about 40 albums listed under "My Albums" in PHOTO. I was able to open, edit, print, etc with no problem. I just scrolled down the the Album I wanted to open and double clicked on it.

My problem is: Now there is only one album showing under "My Albums" in PHOTO. There are no other albums to double click on.

You use the word libraries. Is that different than Albums in PHOTO?

Should I find something called libraries to double click on?

Where does the word libraries appear in Mojave PHOTO?

Under "View" in PHOTO is the word Library with a sub menu to the side. When I double click on the sub menu's photos, memories, places, etc it only opens the last album I created.

Where did my 40 Albums go? Why didn't my last album just get added to my collection of albums?

Still confused,

Walter

Walter, how did you transfer the iPhoto Libraries to Photos? When you open an iPhoto Library in Photos, it will create a new Photos Library with just the Photos from the last migrated iPhoto Library. To see the previously imported photos you need to open the previously used Photos Library. You can switch between your Photos Libraries by double clicking the library you want to open in Photos.
