ipod classic.

my ipod classic displays a circle with a cross inside it when I try to start it,have tried holding centre button and menu button to no avail.????

The hard drive has probably failed. See If you see a red X icon on your iPod classic or iPod nano (5th generation or earlier) - Apple Support.
