my external dvd drive no longer works

my external dvd drive no longer works It worked for a while now it ejects the disc no matter if it ia blank or has data oniy. what to do?

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.14

Hello,

Please try the drive in another USB port (assuming the optical drive is connecting to your Macintosh via USB.) If possible, also try the optical drive on another computer. Another thing you can do is to restart your Mac, Apple Menu  -> Restart.
