Cannot reset my Apple Watch Series 3

I attempted to reset my Apple Watch after forgetting the pass code and used the steps provided on this site. The issue is that I select, "Reset" then "Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings", I enter my Apple ID/Password, it appears to "think" for a few seconds then I get this message, "Could not Connect to Apple Watch" (watch is charged a right next to my iPhone). These 2 devices have been paired for almost a year now. Please advise
