iMac won't start from with SSD inside

hi guys

I just got an iMac from a friend and he took the hard drive out of it so i put my ssd is the Mac and started it on and pressed command R but I was unable to reach the recovery mode the line of loading was finished and then I just got a black screen. I opend the iMac and took the ssd out and then the recovery mode work just fine but now I can't install the Mac OS because the ssd is out...

can I please get help

The new drive needs to be formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled) and GUID partition scheme.
