Duplicate external drive icons...

I have a new 2019 iMac 5K running Mojave 10.14.5 and just recently a second icon has appeared on my desktop for my Transcend external drive.

Here is a snapshot of the info panels for each icon...

You can see from this image that the main hard drive icon is on the left and the duplicate is on the right.

I can put the duplicate in the trash and it goes away but will eventually comeback if I access anything on the drive.

Why has this happened and what can I do to get rid of it?

Hello,

It appears the Get Info panel on the right side is showing that your Mac has connected to itself as a network file share (SMB). Are you attempting to connect to a file server before this appears?

Hello,

I don’t believe that would cause this kind of problem although I’m not positive. Try removing it from the login items panel then restart Macintosh to see if the problem persists. Looking at the rest of the list I wonder if “Default Folder X” or “SmartDaemon” would cause this.

Hello,

In System Preferences -> User & Accounts -> Tap your user account -> Login Items - is “Work iMac” listed (or anything else that would cause your Mac to auto connect to the “Work iMac”)?

This SMB drive icon won't go away, something must be triggering it come up on the Desktop repeatedly. I have a Konica Minolta digital press with a RIP on it but I have had it for years and I never noticed this happening before.

What can I do to stop this appearing on my Desktop?

Aah yes, there is another Mac in the office that was connected to that drive, I have unmounted it from that desktop and I shall see if that fixes the problem.
