Hey guys, if you are quick enough you may be able to revert back to the previous version. The 2019-004 installer creates a local snapshot on the system. You can check by running the command
tmutil listlocalsnapshots /
If it shows you one then you may be able to revert back by booting to the recovery partition, then clicking on time machine then seeing if you see a local snapshot listed that you can revert back to.
I am keeping track of the issue with more info here.

So far looks to be all T1 and T2 Macs

If you have any panic reports, please post a few of the most recent Panic reports.
Look for the Kernel Panic reports at:
Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder -> /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports
<http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2546>
<http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200553>
The panic report should have ".panic" in the file name.

I second SMC Reset solution, thanks a lot, this worked for me.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
I was able to get the shutdowns to stop by disabling computer sleep when display is off.
system preferences -> energy saver -> check "Prevent computer from sleeping when display is off"
Not a solution, but at least stops the annoying shutdowns until Apple can fix the issue.
Open Console in Utilities & search for shutdown.
List the shutdown cause...
Apparently the fixed Security update has been released
Dang that sucks, looks like the problem is actually in the EmbeddedOS (T1) or BridgeOS (T2) Update and not the actual 2019-004 update code. The only thing you can do is wait for Apple to release the fixed version of 2019-004 or upgrade to Mojave.
The only logs I could find regarding a shutdown are here:

seem to line up with times the computer had a problem and shutdown. This only started happening after taking the security update 2019-0004 today (July 24, 2019)
Quick question @g--unit.
What happens when you switch to battery? Does it still panic or no ? As it looks like the setting is only for when you are plugged into power.
It does still panic when on battery power. So, work around only for when plugged in. Sorry
So, I reverted to the snapshot that was taken right before the update, but the problem still exists. I never saw this issue before installing the security update. Are there any other possible fixes to try? I tried the SMC reset that BobHarris suggested, but that didn't work :/ I'll give it another shot post-reset, but if there are any other suggestions, please let me know.
Here's the most recent problem report, if it's any help.
Just got off a support chat to try to get some idea of when a hotfix might be available. The advisor wasn't even aware of the problem with the original patch. Hoping that doesn't mean a long wait for remediation...
I tried this: go to
system preferences -> energy saver -> check "Prevent computer from
sleeping when display is off"
I don't find the "Prevent computer from sleeping when
display is off" in Energy Saver window. What am I missing?
I have an old MacMini
2010 with Memory 16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. I control what I install based on
anything and everything I am told to install by Apple.
This what my Energy
Saver Window looks like
