iMac black screen

Question

iMac black screen

Hey guys,

so I started my iMac today and after the apple Logo loaded, the screen turned black and all that I could see was the white cursor.

I have tried everything the internet is suggesting.

I started with rebooting it, which didn't work. Then I unplugged it from the power, which also didn´t work.

I tried to reset the VRAM + PRAM which failed.

I tried to reset my mac by using cmd + s and fsck -fy, which also failed.

I'm really desperate, can anyone help me figure this out. I've got a really important seminar paper on the mac and I haven't made any copies...

If you have a Time Machine or other backup, you could restore your iMac from Recovery Mode to a time before the issue. You could also try reinstalling the OS without erasing the disk.

Other than that, perhaps someone else will have an idea.

So the login screen just appeared and I typed in my password and after it loaded, the screen turned black again. Its been black for the last 5 minutes. I saw in the comments of the article that it happened to someone else, but nothing happened with my screen. Its still the black screen with the cursor.

Do you have any other idea what to do?
