Ringer volume turns off when Bluetooth in car connects

Why does the ringer volume drop to nothing each time my cars Bluetooth connects to iPhone X? Even when manually turned up, volume zeros out with one touch of the vehicles volume control.

Apple could never figure this out when I contacted them and spoke with someone. I discovered that when I go in under the sounds for the ringer volume, I turned off where it says “change with buttons,” it fixed the problem for me.

Looked at "change with buttons" (did not try) but I think it was just as annoying as having to remember to turn up volume. At least at this point it has become second nature, so like you I just wait for someone to come up with a permanent fix to the problem. Now as far as your text is concerned, I do not have a problem. My text ring tone is a door bell and it rings on the truck system just like it does on my phone. My wife says the car notifies her only not with her selected ring tone. 2020 F-150 and 2018 Flex.

Interesting. Since recent updates my iPhone XR in 2020 Blazer has started working properly again with regards ringer volume. Starting early this year I was always having to reset ringer volume after disconnecting from car Bluetooth connection. Now my ringer volume stays where I set it after I disconnect from car Bluetooth. So with recent updates you are unhappy and I am happy. Go figure.

The work around seems to NOT help at ALL since iso 14 update! It does it ALL the time now! Every single time the truck gets turned on my ringer goes to zero even if I’m not in the truck at all! I am very very frustrated at this point. I must have multiple alarms to wake me in the morning and this keeps turning my volume down every time the truck connects no matter if it’s me in the truck or not! This is unacceptable!

I went straight from the 7 to a 10. The problem did not start for me until I got a 11. If it is software it must be a very difficult problem to tackle. I hope for the benefit of everyone it is a software issue. I have never been able to get the work around to work. I always disable the ringer with the up and buttons anyway. I wish it was effective.

I received my 12 Pro last Friday. The problem still exists. I discovered this problem will also happen with AirPods, It’s not limited to my Silverado. I deleted all of my Bluetooth connections then repaired my AirPods and the ringer does not return to its previous setting when the AirPods are put away. How can android devices work flawlessly even with the AirPods? but iOS devices do not work correctly with them. It’s just terrible.

What you can do? Nothing, really. I started having this problem over a year ago. After speaking with an "Apple Genius" on numerous calls and them throwing "darts at the wall", they kind of gave up on me. The problem is clearly on the side of Apple....and they know it. Every model of vehicle is experiencing this. Just remember to turn your ringer back up when you get away from your car. What to do? Let me know, if you find out.

Maybe Apple could just follow their own guidelines on this. When I asked for a Ringer Profiles app so that my ringer volume could be turned down when it see my work Wi-Fi and back up when no longer available, I was told they will not allow any third party to control “system settings”. Isn’t the third party Bluetooth connection doing just that in this case? 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I have a 2020 Chevy Silverado and have the same issue. Had the same Issue on my 2016 Chevy Silverado, had hoped it go away but it did not. I miss slams and calls all the time, never hung the ring. It even happens in the vehicle only there I usually see the call on screen. Never had that issue with my previous Samsung phone in the 2016 vehicle. But when I decided to make the switch to Apple 11 it showed up. Happens with blue tooth or Apple car play. Apple please help us all out you must realize by now there is an issue other then great phone. I have the latest up dates before any asks

yes so, when I get into my vehicle and I’m hooked up to the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, no phone call will even come in. I will literally just be using the Internet or texting and I will watch my ringer volume go down all the way to zero. Happens every time I get into my new 2021 Escalade. Extremely frustrating. I thought I had a goofed up phone so I went and bought a new iPhone. New iPhone still does the same exact thing. 🤦‍♂️
