Using Apple watch

I am looking to buy an Apple Watch through Verizon and my boyfriend has AT&T. I was told my Verizon that the Apple Watch would not work if he doesn’t have Verizon. The only version they are selling at Verizon is the 4 with GPS+cellular. Can he still use it just with Bluetooth instead of switching cell phone services?

Yes, it will work. Activating the cellular function is completely optional. However you will probably get a better deal not buying from Verizon where you will be paying for the cellular service not used. Either buy from AT&T, or ideally buy direct from Apple where you will be able to get a cellular version completely unlocked and usable on any network, OR the non cellular version at lower price (check https://www.apple.com/watch for prices and differences).
