Itune Payment

So I recently switched debit cards and my iTunes and apple id used that card for my payments. I do not

have this card any longer so I can’t verify the CVC in the app. So I logged into apple on the desktop and updated my payment option but it’s still asking me to verify my card on my phone. It won’t let me add a new card or delete the old one in my iPhone. What do I do? I don’t understand why I need to verify the old one if I can just use a new one. This process makes 0 sense.
