Hard drive was virtually full and have transferred all my Lightroom pictures to an external hard drive and saved all my work files to a back-up but the hard drive is still showing nearly full. How do I recover the space that I have cleared from the disk?

Because that's notoriously unreliable, almost legendarily so.

Put things into the trash and empty it. Only way.
Thanks Terence, but if I have removed all the pictures from the computer hard drive and copied and removed all the work files to an external hard drive, why is it showing in 'About My Mac' storage profile that the disk is nearly full. Surely if I have removed the files, it shouldn't be showing? Don't understand that?
