could’t convert from text to notes shortcuts

I’m creating a Shortcut to inventory my DVD/BluRay collection. I scan the barcode of a disc, and then append it to a text text file. This works fine when I use Evernote, but I want to use Notes to store the information, not Evernote (I only used Evernote as a test, after experiencing problems with Notes, and I want to use Notes as the app is on all my devices, whilst Evernote is only on my laptop). The error I get is

Conversion Error

Append to Note failed because Shortcuts couldn’t convert from Text to Note.

I’ve searched around the net but support for Shortcut seems very limited. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find info on how Shortcuts handles such conversions?
