I only want to store my photos while on trips. I do take 2000 plus photos on month long trips then download them to my desk top when I return. How much storage space on iCloud is adequate without paying for a ridiculous amount of storage while on my trip?
Unless you have space for those photos on your iPhone or iPad, it won’t matter. iCloud Photos merely sync’s photos between devices. The photos live on both the device and in iCloud. So you need to make sure you have enough storage on your iOS device for those photos first, before using iCloud photo.

I am new to apple products and only have the MacBook air laptop. I am not sharing photos between my devices. So if my laptop was stolen my photos are on iCloud and safe?
