Citrix SSL Error 8: Initialization failed. Error number: 183

I am getting the above error when trying to launch a Citrix session. There is another thread on this issue in these forums, but it is a couple of years old and its locked. The helpful answer was:

"Go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access and find the certificate. You can delete and let another certificate be downloaded or you can select it and check Trust."

I know how to do that, but can anyone tell me what the certificate would be called and how is a new one downloaded.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

I want to report back that I got everything working. This is what it took. The Mac not only had Citrix Receiver on it, but it also had Citrix ICA Client which is really old. It appears that the administrators of the Citrix Server had made some updates with which Citrix ICA Client was not compatible. So I got Receiver uninstalled, ICA Client uninstalled, and then installed Citrix Workspace and everything works now. Hopefully if anyone else is having the same problem, they can find the solution here. Shout out to Tesserax for his or her help.

What have you tried, so far, to resolve this yourself?

For example:

  1. Are you using the Citrix Receiver or Workspace app on your Mac? Workspace replaced Receiver in Aug 2018.
  2. Have you verified that you are running the very latest version of Citrix that supports macOS Sierra? If not, you can check here: http://receiver.citrix.com
  3. Have you gone to the Citrix support site for assistance with this?

Hi Tesserax. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Here are the steps that I have tried so far. I downloaded the most recent version of Receiver and then deleted the version of Citrix Receiver that was on the Mac using the un-installer that is on the disk image with the installer. I then re-installed Receiver. I did not download Workspace. I can try that. The user I am trying to help goes to a website, clicks a link that downloads a .ica file and then she clicks that .ica file and it opens the Citrix session in her browser. We have tried both Chrome and Safari and gotten the same result. I went to the Citrix support site and this forum post seems to be the closest to relevant:

I opened a ticket with Citrix but have not heard back yet. Really just trying every avenue.

Thank you again for helping out.

Thanks for the version info. I realized after I asked that even though I can download a copy of Citrix and run it in a VM of macOS Sierra, I wouldn't be able to actually test it as I don't have a remote location to connect to verify, whether or not, I could duplicate the issue you are having. I'm afraid that you will need to wait for a response from Citrix, or possibly, a forum member that has more experience with this product, will chime in. Sorry, I couldn't help you. Good luck!
