Try turning off the Repeat function.

Don't forget, the Repeat function has not two, but three settings and cycles from one to the next each time you tap Repeat:

• Off - (when the current list finishes, the player will stop)
• Repeat - (when the current list finishes, the player will repeat that list)
• Repeat 1 - (the same song will play over and over)

So if your player is in Repeat mode, tapping the repeat button will put the player into Repeat 1 mode and the same song will play over and over until you:

1. stop the player
2. manually select another song
3. tap the Repeat button again to put the player into Off mode

When the iPod is in Repeat 1 mode, you will notice a small 1 in the repeat arrows on the iPod.

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod Touch by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
