Memory upgrade for Mac Mini (late 2012)

The tech specs for my Mac Mini say "Storage... Configurable to a 256GB solid-state drive or 1TB Fusion Drive."

Does this mean that I can take it into an Apple store and get a Fusion drive now (in 2019)? I tried to get an answer from Apple support but they don't want to deal with old Macs, even if they could sell some storage. I want to find out before going to the trouble of taking it into an Apple store.

Thank you. Yes, after my post I called the local Apple store who, after 30 minutes on the phone and being switched to technical support, confirmed that it could be done but not by them. They did give me the names of several local Apple authorized resellers who could do it.

Contact your local Apple Authorize Service Provider and ask if they can upgrade it to a larger HDD or SSD.

Other options include,

1) selling it and buying one with more storage

2) DIY, replace the HDD with a larger HDD or SSD yourself

3) sending it out to a place like OWC that specializes in upgrades

I have the same Mac, and I had a good experience with both Apple and one of the local authorized service providers. I called Apple Support to see if they could replace the original 1TB hdd with a 1 TB ssd at my local Apple Store. The agent called the AASP (Simply Mac) and connected me with them. it was seamless, and I now have a Mac, like new, that can run Mojave without the starts, hesitations, and stops.

Also, I went the AASP route because after reviewing the video to replace a hdd on OWC (macsales.com), I decided I would let someone with the correct tools and skills do it for me. Also since they were also providing the ssd, if anything went "bang" during the warranty period the problem was not caused by me. :)

Have a great day.
