Which Cable do I need to buy to connect my new recliner w/ USB port to my ‘18 iPadPro?

When I learned my new recliner would have a USB port, I thought, Hooray. One less cord to have plugged in. But when I went to use the cable on my Apple 30W brick, today, when the chair arrived, I came to realized both ends on that were USB-C. So, I set off looking for a USB to USB-C cable to connect the two.

Does it need to be this hard? Apple doesn’t seem to have one. 🤔 They do have an ‘adapter’, but I’m not sure that’s what I need. It’d be short, and how would it connect to my existing USB-C to USB-C cord. It would be nice if I could, somehow, have my brick still work.

Apple sells a black cable, USB to USB-C, made by Anker, too. But I’m not sure that’s what I need. Seems USB’s (plain) are not really that plain, and some are USB 2.0, while others are USB 3.0? I thought USB simply meant USB.

I’d like white, and I’d like short. I’d also like to keep fast charging, but I’m thinking that’ll go away those times I’m, actually, charging from the chair. Sad, but it’ll be okay. I just don’t want the charge to actually slow down if 2.0 cables, vs. 3.0 cables — which I don’t understand at all; isn’t USB simply USB? — will restrict any normal outlet (via the chair) charging.

Hoping someone can help, please...

Many thanks!

Linda

You need to know if the USB port on your recliner is USB 3.0, which I highly doubt it would be. The cable won't make your iPad charge faster if the output of the USB is standard, which it most likely is. There is NO WAY to use fast charging with a standard USB port in a chair. My suspicion is you're going to get a standard USB port on the chair and charging will be slow at best.

Contact the manufacturer of the chair and ask them what the USB port on the chair outputs. If they say it's a 5v standard USB port as I imagine it likely is, the cable I linked is really all you need and it will charge your iPad S L O W L Y.

She can only get the faster speed of USB 3.0 IF the chair USB port is USB 3.0. I doubt she has a choice of USB ports in a recliner which comes with a USB port. And I doubt using a USB 3.0 port was a high priority for the manufacturer of the chair. Many modern laptops still don't offer USB 3.0 ports (much less USB C). In saying you do not want USB 2.0, you're giving the OP the impression they have a choice. They don't. They'll get the speed of the port as it is from the manufacturer in the chair.

Well, now you’re getting into what I found. I saw this one, where they distinguish it by calling it a USB “2.0”, while there are other, similar, listings where they speak of the identical thing, but call it a USB “3.0”. It’s why I’m so confused.

I did see, reading the reviews on this one, that they said the draw would be unnecessarily slow which is preciesly what I didn’t need... The cable needs to allow to go thru whatever the chair will provide for with no limitations from the cable, itself.

Additionally, I didn’t know if there was some way to utilize this nice port on my chair, while still taking advantage of the 30W Apple brick. But I’m guessing not.

Thanks!

Looks like I’ll have to do some homework on the chair. Might take a bit, as I’ve just had knee replacement surgery which is the reason for the chair. Hoping some answers will come along soon, as it’d be nice to be able to use the chair’s nice and useful (?) USB feature.

I’m afraid I don’t understand — which is why I wrote — why there are 2.0 and 3.0 versions of USB, vs. there just being plain USB. Makes purchases confusing!

Thanks,

Linda
