Alias files on iMac 2019 macOS 10.14.6

I have a Macintosh HD file that is residing on my desktop screen. The Macintosh HD file is also on the locations in Finder. In order to remove it from the desktop I attempted to move it to a non-iCloud folder. The result was an Alias was created. Before I perform any more uninformed actions, what can I do with the Alias Macintosh HD file (588 bytes [4KB on disk]) and how do I get the Macintosh HD (Available: 714.38 GB [24.91 GB purgeable], the same as in the locations folder) image off my desktop screen? I also have Alias files in various folders. How might I take care of them as well? Thank you ahead of time for any answers.

Niel, I did as you suggested. I unchecked the Hard disks in the Finder Preferences and the Macintosh HD went away. I sent the alias for that drive to the trash. I will go over other aliases once I have all files migrated to the new iMac 2019.

Thank you
