Content and privacy restriction removes Whatsapp

So I am setting up the family sharing for my child and what I want to do is to block everything except calls, messages and WhatsApp.

  • I have added app limits (1 hour) + downtime during the evening
  • Under allowed apps I have added all of the above including WhatsApp
  • Under content and privacy restrictions I have toggled the main setting on. Under allowed apps I have activated only the camera, FaceTime and books.
  • I have also made content restrictions

As soon as I activate content and privacy restrictions with the main toggle, as expected all of the non desired apps are hidden from my child’s phone. However also WhatsApp disappears which drives me nuts as I have it listed under allowed apps. And as I cannot add it under allowed apps within the content and privacy restrictions I assume there is a bug?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Sarah,

thanks a lot for your reply. I was actually able to resolve the issue and the problem was the age rating. WhatsApp has 12+ but I had activated 4+ which prevented it to appear despite being listed under allowed apps.

But problem solved now.

thanks

Hi Genetrik,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you may be running into an issue with Screen Time settings.

For clarification on a few points, which specific apps do you have under the "Allowed Apps" section of Settings > Screen Time > Always Allowed? You mentioned that you have calls, Messages and WhatsApp allowed, and also that you've activated only the camera, FaceTime, and books in what sounds like a similar section, so knowing your exact settings will help work out what might be happening.

Also, under Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, is "Social Networking" selected? These settings would apply to a category of apps rather than a specific app, so this might explain what's happening.

Also, which specific content restrictions are enabled?

I hope this helps in getting to the bottom of this. The following resource has some great information about how you can Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Take care.
