Cannot select desired network with my Apple Watch

When I select settings/Wi-Fi on my Apple Watch, at the top of the list are three networks for my apartment house, and then the network for my apartment that my iPhone, iPad, & iMac are connected to. (Well, when I take my devices away from my apartment, they connect to other networks, and I sometimes have to manually reset my iPhone back to my desired network when I return).

My assumption is that it is connected to the first listed network, and that is why occasionally my iPhone won't wake up my Apple Watch. But I may be mistaken in that assumption.

I select my desired network on my Apple Watch, get "CHOOSE NETWORK" for a couple of seconds, and then it returns to the same list in the same order.

I just noticed that the list is in alphabetical order.

How do I determine what network my Apple Watch is using?

Just now is the first time I have seen that. In the past, every time I looked at that screen, I got the whole list. And every time I pressed my desired network, I just got the spinning disk.

But for a different problem, I shut both my watch and my phone, then turned on my phone and then my watch. I guess that procedure is our version of MicroSoft's ctl-alt-del, fixing various problems.

Thanks.
