Fitness calibration

I have not been able to ever get the outdoor workout to count toward daily exercise on my watch. It works if I use any other workout mode, but outdoor walk doesn't count. Will resetting calibration help and if I reset the calibration, will I lose all previous workouts and awards that I have earned? I don't want to lose the record of everything I have done. Everything I have read says to calibrate, you have to walk for 20 minutes in a flat open area at your normal pace. My normal pace is slower than many people because I am short. There is nothing anywhere that says outdoor walk has to be speed walking.
