I have had issues with the proximity sensor since day one as well. I went to my Genius Bar appointment and was told that it was a software issue. I had to drive the hour back home and restore my phone. This did not fix anything. Two days later, I discover a green pixel that is green no matter what. Apple wants to give me a refurbished phone now for replacement. I'm terribly disappointed to think that Apple has such little support for their mistakes.

This issue has been plaguing me since the first 24 hours I had my phone. I never experienced the antenna issue that has been so widely reported, but the proximity sensor causes all sorts of difficulty from disconnecting a caller to accidentally conference calling another. I owned the 1st gen and iPhone 3Gs and never experienced this issue.

After repeated attempts to work with tech support and customer service, my call was elevated to (my understanding) the supervisor of the supervisor at Customer Relations. I have been updated from Apple that this matter is on high priority testing and research. They are hoping to get back with me "shortly" and will follow up with me next week.

Well, I have solved the proximity sensor problem for me, personally.

I went to a Verizon store this morning to purchase the Droid X. As of yet, the proximity sensor on the Droid X shuts the screen off no matter where I hold it next to or on my ear. It's so refreshing not to have to worry about how I'm holding a phone anymore after three weeks of having to treat the iPhone 4 like a fussy baby. I'll keep monitoring these threads, but at least I now have a usable phone that I can carry on professional conversations with.

I'll reiterate my complete disappointment with Apple regarding the iPhone 4. I made my disappointment evident by voting with my wallet this morning.

I CAN VERIFY THAT 4.0.1 DOES NOT FIX THE PROXIMITY SENSOR GLITCH!!!!!!!!

VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nor does it fix Caps Lock. (Roll's eyes)

It does exactly what the press release said it would do. Change the bar formula and also the look of the bars slightly.

You have a right to be frustrated, but it seems things are now rolling so hang on and lets see if they can tidy up the rest.
