Txatty,

Take a look at the link, and your serial number, to determine when your replacement phone was actually produced. Solely based on the couple of articles about newly designed phones, they would have come from production week 28 or higher.

I'm sure this whole silent fix thing is wishful thinking, but who knows. Mine is from production week 25. I have the proximity sensor issue, and can recreate the signal drop (though it doesn't affect performance that much).

To those of you wondering. I took my phone back and got a full refund. This was my 5th phone. So you can get a full refund after you've received a replacement. I feel like a heavy weight has been lifted knowing I have enough self respect to not let a company get away with treating me the way they did. Everyone else should do the same. Picking up my HTC Evo4 this evening and saving over 80.00 a month on my bill.

O yea this is funny... To add to the genius bar/apple care info mystery ...when I traded in my week 25 phone the boy wonder gave a week 26, I'm like WOW great! Thanks! this is gonna work much better than the last one ...then as they usually do, the "genius" made me think I had no clue about what it is I speak off because "the iPhone 4 serial numbers don't have the same meaning as all other Apple products" yea okay buddy I said thanks for another broken phone and stormed-out ...I guess it was merely coincedence that my third character is "0" for 2010 and the 25th week of this year is the middle of June. ...like where do these people get off talking to us like we're stupid, boldly lying to our face?

Yeah no kidding apple. What's extra stupid about this is that each page only loads like 8-12 posts. So it doesn't matter if the thread has 10 posts or 2000 posts, it only loads one page at a time. How could that possibly cause browsers to "time out". Give me a break. At least this proves that apple is following the forum...now if we can only get them to do something about it!!!

PS Put my boss on mute today and he hung up on me because he couldn't hear me. You guys wanna send me a blue tooth ear piece while I wait for a working phone?

Do you have to ship it back if you ordered from the website or can you return it to an Apple store? I have an appointment tonight to return it. I have been told so many things I want to be sure before i waste any more time.

According to their website it needs to be returned to the place you picked it up.

Wow apple you really are letting down your customer base here. first you release a product that has clearly been rushed out to satisfy demand, but in doing so it seems the product struggles with one thing in particular - making calls!

I’ve been a life long supporter of apple products but this is embarrassing.

At least release a statement about what you tend to do to correct the problem or give us some guidance as everybody has renewed their mobile contracts, and by the time you sort it out (i mean if you sort it out) we will have all have passed our window to return the handsets for a refund and we will all be tied into an 18/24mth contract with a phone that doesn’t operate as well as it’s predecessor

I’m going to have to cancel my contract and return the phone tomorrow before my 14 day cooling off period ends, simply because we have no word of your plans to correct the proximity issue. This is a much bigger issue than the antenna and we deserve a response. Sort it out

Ditto! Same here. I can't rest the iPhone 4 on my shoulder as I have with all previous iPhone models. If I do the screen comes on because the Proximity Sensor mistakenly thinks I've taken it away from my face completely and of course this activates the screen. Any contact from that point either ends the calls or presses other buttons.

Can this be fixed with software? I hope so. I really want to like this phone, but I'm having dropped calls, yellow photos, bluetooth headset disconnects/reconnects and can pretty much only use the iPhone 4 if I put it down on the table and use the speakerphone. All the other features are great, but it's failing miserably as a PHONE.
