I've been told by AT&T that as long as you return the iPhone 4 within the 30 day window, the restocking fee is waived. I am going to be firm about them standing by that. Some have reported on here that the corporate store hits you with the restocking fee, but that you can call AT&T Customer Service at 611 on your phone and they will remove the restocking fee if you're within the 30 day window on the return. I will test this out tomorrow when I return my iPhone 4 to an AT&T corporate store.

Wait till Friday I heard there is a NEW CONFERENCE for iphone 4 on Friday maybe they will address this issue in that and come up with fix since my 30days is not going to be over by Friday now I am going to wait and see what apple has to say on FRIDAY and then if they still don't acknowledge the problem then I will definitely try to call 611 and see if they can credit my account or something.

This is just RIDICULOUS. First, I was a kid in a candy store, all happy with my nice resolution, ecstatic about the camera, giggled when I could edit my videos on the phone, jeez I even made jokes about dropping calls "oh I have a new Iphone, sorry I dropped the call" but after 7 days of wondering how I called someone else while I was on the phone, or wait.. I think I just accidentally put my mom on mute... or hmmm how is it possible my cheek just dialed my eye doctor while I was listening to that voicemail?! I'm done. Unless stevie says he is fixing this issue TOMORROW, I am officially taking the phone in, and switching to Sprint and getting the EVO. It may not be sexy, but it freaking works and it's not on AT&T!

I have been on this forum since day one and I no longer care about any of these type of posts and neither should anybody else here.

If these people are so willing to give this information then they should have no problem coming here and making an official statement. Until I hear something official directly from Apple and not hearsay through somebody else that cannot be held accountable for all the people on this forum who are having technical problems with their equipment purchased from Apple, I suggest everybody deal with what they know for sure and not keep creating this false hope that will just take people past their return deadline and leave them stuck.

Hopefully the "officially announced" press conference on Friday will resolve these issues. Until then....

(if you need more info, see my previous posts on this thread and the older one as well)

Just FYI, I also waited in line for 10 hours like quite a few people here and this is not cool for Apple to treat its customers like this. This is NOT the Apple I know and love. I hope they fix the situation on Friday.

Apple, I am counting on you to do the right thing!

I would wait until Friday, but the reality is that in my mind, I gave Apple until one week before my 30 day window closes (tomorrow) to acknowledge and/or issue a fix for the proximity sensor problem. I know the deadlines I impose make no difference to Apple, nor anyone else, but I am sticking to it. At this point, there are a lot more reasons for me personally to jump over to Verizon than to stay with AT&T. Besides, I still have a 32 GB iPod Touch that I can tether wirelessly to the Droid X for $20/month when I need to, so I can still use the vast majority of my App Store apps on a far superior 3G network.

Another reason I am returning the phone tomorrow and jumping off AT&T's ship is that I just don't like the way Apple handled people's complaints about the proximity sensor from the very beginning -- three weeks ago. I would expect disorganization and lack of response from an amateur company, but not a company like Apple that has worked so hard to build and maintain a reputation for quality, service, and making products that just plain work without any of this "don't hold it that way" B.S. Unfortunately, I think unless Apple turns the iPhone 4 around in a big way with this press conference on Friday, the iPhone 4 will be remembered as the device that carried with it a long list of "don'ts."

I just wanted to chime in that I am absolutely having this problem as well. I have managed to mute people, put them on speakerphone, and hang up on them multiple times since getting the phone on launch day. And I don't even talk on it that much.. (who talks anymore? It's all text!)

But there's definitely a problem.. this never happened to me on my 3G. I do hope it's a software fix and will be taken care of by iOS 4.1. I actually have this problem and not the signal issue, go figure. I'd rather have the signal one to be honest because I could just get a case and fix it.

Oh, I should mention that I'm not 100% sure on what my screen looks like when this happens.. I'm pretty sure the screen comes back though, it doesn't stay black.
